Getting ready for the back patio. Our concrete men came and staked off our patio area, added the form boards and then the mesh. Sadly we got a hard rain and some if it washed out and had to be redone.

I am excited to seeear your journey continue. We got into mini zebu 2 years ago. I love them! We've had 10 calves here so far.

DeleteI guess we have 13 currently. 1 Bull, 1 Steer, 5 Cows, and 1 Heifer are the adults. We have 5 calves from this year - 3 girls and 2 boys. We had 5 calves last year and only 1 was a girl. She is the heifer. We sold the other 4 boys and another bull we had. The older bull and the largest wildest bull calf went to the rodeo. The three sweet bull calves all went to the same place to be pets (he was supposed to sell one to a friend after he figured out which two he was keeping, but I don't know if that happened. I get to see photos of them still on facebook some.)

DeleteIt's funny how on the farming world no one wants to boys, lol. They are so much harder to sell. I love seeing photos of the babies we have sold. I am FB friends with a lot of my buyers. Our first babies will be having babies by the end of the year:) We have people bring back some of our goats for a visit and we also "babysat" one of our boys while his owners went away. They didn't trust him with anyone else.

We really got them to help with the grazing. We downsized on goats, but still have 100 acres to keep down and to maintain the ag exemption on. We have sold 5 boys so far. One was a bull we bought to use as a bull, but decided against. He and a bull calf that was a little off personality wise went into a charity auction to become bucking bulls. We had 3 other bull calves born last year. Sold them all to the same person. He was going to keep 2 and sell 1 to his friend, but I am friends with them on Facebook, and it looks like they kept all 3 as pets. They call them their 'dogs'. We will have two more bull calves to sell soon - I hate that part of it. I have down to start watching one cow at the end of next month for her to be ready to have another calf, so it's about time for the cycle to start all over.
DeleteWith the goats, we did full blood savannas for a bit. It was too much money and too much interaction with buyers for me to do much more than the tech part. We now are back commerical, just with full blood bucks. Majority go to auction and then we only hold back the best each of each kidding for private sale. Girls are kept longer before we decide who to cull. Since we are staying small, even our culls are normally pretty good goats. Some might go just because they have a bad attitude or they are too timid at feeding time. Confirmation could still be great, but they just don't make the cut.
