Chapter 161...Vents, Plumbing And Building Shelves

This week's pictures is a lot of odds and ends.  We have to wrap up some old stuff, get ready for the sheetrock to be installed, and start building shelves for the store.


Here is Mike on the back side of the building using a template for one of the vents:

One vent is installed.  We will have two on each end.  We tried to use some vents that we had in our storage container but Mike isn't happy with it.  We will have to look for more vents when we go to town:

That's OK....there is always something else to do.  Mike starts working on the plumbing inside the building.  He starts with the cold water pex lines:

Using the crimping tool.  I love this stuff:

The cold water (blue) lines are in.  Now Mike works on the hot water lines.  Gotta love pex.  It is so easy to work with:

And the plumbing is done.  Nice and easy:

Everything is cleared out and cleaned up.  We are ready for the sheetrock delivery:

The sheetrock is delivered.  Since a crew will be doing the work we were able to order 12 foot boards.  That's a lot of sheetrock:

Next Mike works on the fan/light combo for the bathroom:

Wiring it:

And adding the hose which will vent it outside the building:

Back to the vents.  Mike cutting out the siding for the second vent:

Using the reciprocating saw to cut another square for the vent:

Adding screen behind the vent so no animals can squeeze in:

The building is now cleared out for the sheetrock crew.  We will start building the shelves at the house so we aren't in the way.  We are going to build the same type of shelves that we built last year for our shed.

I measure all of the 2x4's while Mike cuts them down:

Next we start building the bases for each shelf.  First we make a box using the 2x4's and nail them together:

Then we put the measured and cut down pice of plywood on top of the box:

 

That gets nailed down to the 2x4's:

Making another box.  We need three boxes for each shelf:

We are out of wood so we stack them on the shed until we can paint them:

Ahh...the next day is painting day:  We lay a couple of boxes at a time across the saw horses so we can give them the first coat of paint:

Mike starts spraying:

We got the bottoms all done.  Now we wait for them to dry:

Once those are dry we flip them over and paint the tops:

That's all we did for now.  Once they are dry we stack them back in the building.  The next job we have will be making the stands for the shelves....but that's another story.

Chapter 141...Plumbing For The New Store

We are getting ready for the slab to be poured for our new store.  To do that we need to make sure the weight of a concrete truck can make it to the future slab without sinking.  We also need gravel inside the slab before the concrete guys show up and of course Mike and I need to get all of the plumbing set.


April 2
Mike calls for some loads of rock and we go over to the lot to make sure it is getting done.  Mike talks to the grader and his bulldozer man about laying the rock to the slab.

While Randy is working on that, our concrete guys show up and put the form boards in for our slab.  We are getting closer:

April 3

Today Mike and I have to watch our granddaughter.  She will have to do our running around with us since we have to keep an eye on the work being done at the site.

She was excited to be top of the world here:

And she got permission to sit on the bulldozer.  Yes our little one is a country girl:)

More rock being delivered.  It took a lot of rock to get this far:

Finally we have a road to the store site.  Now we need to put gravel in the slab itself.  We need to have 4 inches, 18 tons, of gravel under the concrete.

Mike has Randy work on a ditch behind the store.  Since we have such a steep hill behind us, we have to make sure any rain that comes down goes behind the building and doesn't wash it away.

Mike and I do some more running around with Ella.  We go to the Farm Supply for plumbing parts and then we head home.

It was a good day with Ella and we are getting closer to getting the slab poured at the store.

The weather changed and not for the better which put off our concrete pouring.  Mike and I were able to sneak in some solar jobs at the house but that's all.

April 8

It's plumbing day:)  The plumbing and the septic pipe have to be under the slab when the concrete gets poured.  We know the layout of the store and measured off where the bathroom with a shower, toilet and vanity will go.  With those measurements, Mike glued some of the PVC pipe at the house.

Time to take it all over to the slab to get it in the ground.

Once we are there we have to pull the gravel away from the form boards to get the plumbing pipes set.

This is the back corner where the bathroom will be:

We measure out for the pipes and Mike starts shoveling the gravel out of the way:

Mike gets our plumbing contraption out of the car while I dig on the back side and under the form boards.  This is where the sewer pipe has to leave the store:

We are down to the dirt and Mike digs underneath the form boards:

Now for the fun part, lol.  We have to make sure the shower stall fits the space we cleared and all of our measurements are right.  There is no room for error once the concrete gets poured.  So Mike and I brought a shower base to the site which is on the side of the highway.

Now we are set and Mike glues the final pvc pipes together:

That's it.  Now we can call concrete man and tell him to pour when he is ready:)  Finally it feels like we are getting somewhere.  Mike and I like when things get done.

Florida Flip 2...Bathroom Demo and Soldering Pipes

The Bathroom Demo and Soldering Pipes Good morning. Mike and I are in the middle of building a big shed but I can write a quick story. I will take you back to the second bathroom demo. We are gutting the entire bathroom down to the studs and starting over. Just a quick picture of Mike working in the laundry room. We need to take out the old appliances, replace them with new, and redo the room. Mike is working on the plumbing. Onto the bathroom. We have that beautiful very 70's avocado green bathroom. We asked around and no one wanted anything from this bathroom so the quickest way for Mike and I to gut it, is to break it apart. Mike is starting with the cast iron tub. These are just too heavy for us to remove in one piece so we have to break it apart. Mike using the ax to break it...and these tubs are stubborn. Taking a break and doing an easier job. The vanity. The vanity is almost out. Next is the toilet and to speed up the job Mike decides to just break it out. Mike cleaning around the toilet area...yuck!! I hate that job. And back to the tub Using a crowbar on the tiled wall. Mike carefully cleaning up the shattered pieces. If you ever break up a tub or tile be very careful. The pieces are very sharp and can cut you open. While Mike is in the bathroom working, I am taking out the tack strips in the small bedrooms. Mike working on the bathroom walls. After the tub and walls are out we have a huge mess to clean up. What else is new, lol? It has to get worse before it gets better. And more. Time to take out the soffit above the tub. And then the bathroom ceiling. Getting a little side tracked, lol. Mike is taking out the door jams on one of the bedroom doors. We will be replacing all the doors in the house. New door going into the laundry room/garage. Mike is back up in the small attic. We need to add a fan to the bathroom. Here I am using my new fun tool to take out the tile on the bathroom floor. Note....the fancy flip flops and socks Do not do this at home When Mike and I live somewhere when doing projects we tend to just jump into a job when we feel like it Once the floor is out and we get cleaned up, it's time to work on the new tub. Mike needs to work on the plumbing for the tub. Mike soldering the end on the shower pipe. Soldering an elbow for the diverter for the shower. The diverter with piping in place getting ready to be installed. Prepping the pipe to be installed. The diverter is installed and there are no more leaks It may look like a mess but this is a nice job. The new ceiling fan and vent in the ceiling. Of course I put the new insulation in. The new electric for the new bathroom fan. New window installed. And the tub is in place. The messy part is done. The house is prepped for new sheetrock. Time to call in a crew. They do it so much faster than Mike and I can. That will be next week. It is so nice when you get to the point of putting a house back together. I hope you enjoyed this part of the story. Lisa
